What is the true strength of $1.00?

My buddy and I were gaming and we tend to talk about a wide variety of topics.  We started talking about BRICS, and currency.  He then reminded me about the common misconception (at least in our opinion) that the US Dollar is not backed by anything.  We both disagree.  While the US left the gold standard, we are now on the “lead” standard.

The USA has the strongest military, and likely the strongest military to have ever existed in history.  And that organization, filled with young high-functioning alcoholics armed with lead slingers, is what preserves the value of Uncle Sam’s most precious creation.  The dollar is backed by the overbearing threat of being obliterated by the only socialist and longest lasting socialist structure in existence, the US Military.

I am going to take some liberties with this next part, and make some assumptions.  Bear with me.  Khadafi, according to conspiracies, was taken out because he wanted to switch over to the gold standard for trade.  Libya had a lot of gold.  A very large amount, so much so that the gold per capita was higher than most.  If Khadafi managed to convince others to follow suit and join the gold standard, Libya would have gone from what less educated westerners would call a “shit hole” to one of the richest nations on earth virtually overnight.  Uncle Sam was having none of that.

What we saw next was the complete destabilization of Libya, and the US support for removing Khadafi from power under the guise of freedom.  Now, Khadafi was a known tyrant, with major human rights violations, so please do not take this as a defense of his actions.  I am focusing on the gold, rather than the blood.

The dollar was defended, and held its value because of the military actions (with a little help from the spooky bois) and the threat from the gold standard was thwarted, and Uncle Sam’s pockets remained heavy with their magical paper.

I sound like I criticize the dollar, and the USA.  I am not.  Actually, supremacy through the dollar has prevented the need for violence.  The dollar ultimately has been a tool utilized at times as a means of keeping the peace.  Iran gets froggy, another nation invades another nation, Uncle Sam has been able to enact economic pressure to get them to behave, or stop further aggression.

Other nations, who do not have this power, may not like it.  But the alternative of having no dollar, backed by no standard, would likely result in far more violence on our little blue planet.

Yes, the dollar is backed by something.  The dollar uses the “lead” standard.

Stay frosty,
